Site Outage.
Our site was down last Thursday through much of Saturday due to an
"unscheduled emergency maintenance" on our web server.
Sorry about that. The worst part is that we sent out Issue 14 of
our e-Newsletter Wednesday night.
While the site was down, some of our subscribers
had no way of accessing the featured stories referenced in the
e-Newsletter.

How is everyone doing this week? Here we are with
another update for you this week.
Our
first HTML e-Newsletter. In our last (free)
e-Newsletter, we polled whether our subscribers would prefer the old
text-based e-Newsletter or a new HTML version. With overwhelming response,
the clear preference was HTML (though a number of our subscribers really
wanted to keep the text version). So here we are with our
first HTML e-Newsletter. Our plan is to roll out at least one
e-Newsletter per month, around the first Tuesday of each month. And
when there's
significant news or an interesting development, we'll follow up with another e-Newsletter
as needed. If you're not a
subscriber already, you can sign up
here. It's free and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Star
Wars: Episode 1 Release Date. Given all the rumors
flying around the internet about the release date of The Phantom Menace,
we decided to check this out ourselves with our studio contact. And guess
what? They replied saying that they can neither confirm or deny the
rumor, but added that we may be receiving some official information on it
very soon. Cool! As Jar Jar would say, "we se wait long
enough." We'll let you know as soon as we hear anything more or
official...
Panasonic
introduces a DVD recorder offering backwards compatibility.
Panasonic announced its second generation DVD recorder. The Panasonic
DMR-E20 DVD recorder will debut in October for $1,500 list price and
will offer recording capability for DVD-R as well as DVD-RAM. The
write-once DVD-R format allows for backwards compatibility with virtually
all existing DVD players. We think this is a move in the right
direction for Panasonic, whose previous DVD recorder used only the DVD-RAM
format, which is incompatible with current DVD players. It's just
the latest sign of convergence in the recordable DVD format war which has
at least three competing camps: DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM. For more
information about this DVD recorder, read the full
press release.
Upcoming Releases
and Release Date Adjustments.
On our Upcoming
Releases page, we've added some more titles: Monkeybone
(7/10), Wayne's World (7/10), Wayne's World 2 (7/10), Mommy
Dearest (7/17), Enemy at the Gates (8/14), Kramer vs. Kramer
(8/28), My Best Friend's Wedding (8/28), The Never Ending
Story (9/4), The Never Ending Story II (9/4), Home for the
Holidays (9/4), The French Lieutenant's Woman (9/4), Little
Man Tate (9/4), Under Fire (9/4), and Quigley Down Under
(9/4) . Then with respect to street date adjustments, The Mask of
Zorro: Special Edition has been postponed to August 28, from June 12.
June 4, 2001
Well, it's almost been a month since we've updated this
page. But we're back! As you can guess, we've been very busy
working on our web site re-design. We're still trying to debug some
unexpected "features" and will be converting the rest of the
site content to the new design over the course of this month. Thanks
for your patience and support. If you have any comments on the site
re-design, send them to us at Feedback@TimeForDVD.com.
Thanks, as always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
Anyways, we're back and without further delay, we've got a ton of update
for you.

week or so. It's a quick way to see what titles we've recently
added.
Release Date Confirmations.
We got confirmation that Hannibal will in fact be released as a
2-disc Special Edition on August 21. The DVD will feature a
"shocking alternate ending". As noted above, Silence of
the Lambs will be re-released on the same date as a Special Edition.
Release Date Adjustments.
Disney has pulled their scheduled release of Oliver and Company
from June 5 indefinitely. We'll let you know if we hear anything in
the future. We also had incorrectly reported the release date for Cast
Away as June 5. The actual release date is June 12.
Sorry about that.
Some Truth
to the Episode 1 DVD Date. We're hearing that the
rumored release date for Star Wars: Episode 1--The Phantom Menace
of October 16 may have some truth to it after all! The latest word
is that Fox Home Entertainment will make a formal announcement this
month. Let's keep our fingers crossed. We'll definitely keep
you posted on this one.
Rumored Release Date.
Rumor has it that the original Terminator will be re-released as a
Special Edition by MGM sometime fourth quarter 2001.
Well, that's it. We will be returning to our old
schedule of updating this page every week or two, or when there's
significant news. Don't be a stranger, and have a good week.
