December 28, 2000 Did everyone have a wonderful Christmas? We wish you the best for the New Year. First, we have a couple of DVD movie reviews, followed by some DVD upcoming releases news.
We just completed our review of Under Suspicion, a murder mystery starring Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman. If you're a fan of drama or murder mysteries, you won't want to miss this title when it comes out on January 2. The second title is a romantic comedy with a foreign film flavor, Bossa Nova. This is a cute comedy about the intertwined love lives of a small group of people in Rio de Janeiro.
On our Upcoming Releases page, we added the following titles: Whipped (confirmed for 2/6/01), Mother (2/13/01), The Watcher (2/20/01), Almost Famous (3/13/01), Avalon (3/13/01), The Story of Jacob and Joseph (3/13/01), and Shadow of Doubt (3/13/01). Then, a couple of street date adjustments for some titles coming out early next year. Disney's The Kid DVD release is delayed a week, from January 16 to January 23. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle is delayed from January 23 to February 13. The January 9 release of Wonder Boys is delayed by Paramount until sometime in February due to its Golden Globe nomination.
That's probably it from us for the year 2000. We're holding off a while on the web host transfer, but it will happen sometime before the end of next week. Well, at least that's the plan. Happy New Year, everyone!

Also note that Lady and the Tramp II - Scamp's Adventure is delayed one week until February 27.
And finally, we recently updated our quick overview pages for Dolby Digital, THX Surround EX, DTS, and DTS Extended Surround. We made these overviews more stand-alone and added more useful information, including data rates for Dolby Digital and DTS formats--in case you were curious. December 13, 2000 ...We
interrupt our regularly scheduled program to bring you this special
announcement.... Vice-President Al Gore has graciously resigned from
the Presidential election and has asked fellow Americans to reunite
and support our new President-Elect. Congratulations to our new
President-Elect George W. Bush! ... whew, we're glad that's
over. So let's reunite as a nation and stand behind George
W. Bush, shall we fellow Americans?
Today, we completed our review of Shanghai Triad. It's a foreign film (Chinese/Mandarin dialogue with English or Spanish subtitles) about the life of a mistress of a Shanghai Mafia "Godfather". Though it is set around the organized crime community of Shanghai in the 1930s, there is amazingly little violence as the movie is really a drama with deep character studies. If you're a fan of drama and is open to foreign films, this film is definitely worth a look.
December 11, 2000 My, how time flies when you have DVDs to watch and to keep you busy... do you realize there's only two weeks left before Christmas? We've been pretty busy writing a number of DVD movie reviews. Then, we added a number of new upcoming DVD titles. Are you ready?
First up are a couple of DreamWorks DVD titles. DreamWorks seems to be putting out some really good titles for this holiday season. Adding to their list and coming out tomorrow is their latest animated movie, The Road To El Dorado. We think this DVD is easily worth its weight in gold. Another gold nugget is the recent DTS re-release of The Prince of Egypt, based on the biblical story of Moses and deliverance of the Hebrew people from slavery (from the book of Exodus). These are two awesome feature animations from DreamWorks that are not to be missed.
Next, we have a preview of New Line's upcoming Se7en re-release as a 2-disc Platinum Series (scheduled for December 19). New Line has been releasing some great Platinum Series titles, and Se7en is no exception. It's a new video transfer and a new audio re-mix that includes both THX Surround EX and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 soundtracks. Fans of this movie and of mystery/thrillers will not want to miss this version.
Speaking of thrillers, we also recently reviewed Malice, a smart thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. For Russell Crowe (of Gladiator fame) fans, you may be interested in our review of his DVD movie No Way Back. It's not quite a gladiator of a movie. For the savvy investors out there, we recently reviewed the 1987 blockbuster hit Wall Street. Check out these and other DVD movie titles on our DVD movie reviews page.
As far as Upcoming Releases go, we added the following titles: Dr. T. and the Women (2/6/01), Urban Legends: Final Cut (2/6/01), Urban Legend / Urban Legends: Final Cut 2-pack (2/6/01), Manhunter (2/13/01), In the Line of Fire: Special Edition (2/27/01), Dr. Strangelove (2/27/01), and Ben Hur (3/13/01).

The Greatest Story Ever Told is a 1965 movie about the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection, and features an all-star cast with no less than Charlton Heston, Martin Landau, Angela Lansbury, Sidney Poitier, and John Wayne. MGM spent nearly a half million dollars for the complete restoration of this epic film which was produced with a budget of $20 million (an even larger sum in those days). The two-disc set will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer, 2.75:1 aspect ratio, Dolby Digital 5.1, a brand new documentary with interviews with the director and cast, an original "making-of" featurette, deleted scene, photo gallery, an original theatrical trailer, and a collectible booklet. As we noted above, this title is coming out March 6, in time for Easter.
