Summary: Quoyle (Kevin Spacey) has grown up to be
an underachiever because his father viewed him as a failure from early
childhood. Life
changes for Quoyle when he falls in love with Peddle (Kate Blanchett), but
their relationship does not last long. Even so, Quoyle devotes his time to be a good father to his
daughter and endlessly tolerates his wife's promiscuous lifestyle.
One day,
tragedy strikes hard and Quoyle uproots his daughter to move along with
his estranged aunt (Judi Dench) into an ancestral home in a small Newfoundland fishing
village. When he has least expected, Quoyle finds a job as a
journalist for the shipping column and his eventual success in this job
allows him to overcome his childhood
taunts, leading to an inspirational self-discovery and a second chance at
life.
Special Features: "Dive Beneath The
Surface Of The Shipping News", feature commentary with director
Lasse Hallstrom, screenwriter Robert Nelson Jacobs and producers Linda

or better. Only the highest number of channels of surround sound
format is listed (e.g., Dolby Digital 5.1). If there are both Dolby
Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 soundtracks, then both are listed. All
DVD-Video discs are backwards compatible with stereo-only playback
systems.
