Summary: This mother and daughter con team are out to get divorce settlements from unsuspecting men who can easily be lured by old fashion beauty and charm without even giving into sex.  The thrill and fun is in conning the men without intimately attaching themselves to their victims.  This team may even con you out of your money to buy the "HeartBreakers" Special Edition DVD.  Sigourney Weaver never looks better, and it is hard to believe that Weaver, Hewitt, and Hackman can crack the comedy genre.

The Story

Maxine (Sigourney Weaver) and Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt) Conners are a mother and daughter team out to con unsuspecting men for divorce settlements.  Maxine lures the prey to the altar, and then Page leads them into temptation with explicit sexual cues and advances.  The mother and daughter team con their victims out of a hefty settlement without even having to consummate the marriage on the wedding night.  How long can this team keep conning men?

When Page announces that she is ready to go off on her own, Maxine talks her into do the last job by luring the wealthy, but dying tobacco tycoon Tensy (Gene Hackman) to the altar.  While Maxine is busy courting Tensy, Page is catching her own prey.  After several failed attempts, inexperienced Page realizes that she is not ready to do the con herself.  However, she discovers that the bartender who she has several unpleasant run-ins with is a would-be millionaire.  She thinks she can con him, but will she be able to?  This sassy mother and daughter team may even con you out of your money to buy this funny and sexy comedy on DVD.

The Extras

In this Special Edition DVD, "HeartBreakers" comes with the following bonus features:

  • Two audio commentaries: director David Mirkin track, and Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt track

  • Two original documentaries: "The Making of Heartbreakers" and "Bloopers, Laffs and Gaffes"  -- an inside look at the film from casting through theatrical release and a hilarious look at the chemistry of the cast and crew, bloopers, outtakes are a must see.

  • 19 deleted scenes (not the 22 mentioned on the box) with optional director's audio commentary: very short scenes which delve into character and link the circumstances.  Some are great scenes but you just have to be patient and select each scene and then press play because there isn't a "Play All" button!

  • Original theatrical trailer

Overall, this is a pretty decent set of bonus features for an MGM DVD release.

Video & Audio

The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD is very good.  The colors are accurate and saturated, while shadow detail is also very good.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is well balanced with conservative use of the surround channels, while the dialogue remains crystal clear.
