Summary: Paul Hogan returns as the famous Mick Dundee
in this third film of the "Crocodile Dundee" franchise. This
time, when his girlfriend Sue takes a temporary assignment in Los Angeles,
Mick comes along with their son. Mick takes the
opportunity to teach their son a thing or two that he knows about modern
life. And when he is not doing that, Mick helps Sue with an
investigative piece on which she is working. In traditional Crocodile
Dundee fashion, Mick gets into more than his share of mischief and mis-adventures.
If you enjoyed the first two Dundee movies, you may find yourself
liking this one too.

The Story
The successful Crocodile Dundee franchise continues with this third
film, "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles". After an unforgettable
and hilarious trip to the Big Apple in "Crocodile Dundee II", Mick Dundee (Paul Hogan)
returns home to the Australian Outback. There he "settles
down" with his girlfriend, Sue (Linda Kozlowski, who is Paul Hogan's
real-life wife!). Together, they had a son, Mikey (Serge Cockburn),
who is now a young boy. This is where
this third film picks up. The crocodile hunting/wresting business has
been slow, even with help from tourism, but Mick and his buddy Jacko (the
second best crocodile wrestler) have been making the most of things as best
as they can. Mick teaches his son the ways of the Outback, while Sue
tries to raise their son in a modern approach.
Their quiet lifestyle changes when Sue's father asks her
to temporarily replace the chief editor of the Los Angeles bureau who suddenly passed away in a tragic car accident. Paul
encourages Sue to take the temporary position, saying that the big city
experience would be good for their son. As can be expected, Mick's
real adventures begin as soon as he sets foot in Los Angeles. He
spends a couple of days exploring the diverse lifestyle of Los Angeles and
tries to teach his son a thing or two that he knows about the modern
world. When Mikey has to enroll in school, Mick finds himself alone
and at a loss of how to pass time. When Sue tells him about a story
that she is investigating, he jumps at the opportunity to help. And
needless to say, the real fun and mis-adventures begin.
As long as you don't take the plot too seriously, you'll
enjoy this comedy. There are a number of surprise appearances by famous
real-world actors and celebrities, starring as themselves. And the
"truths" about themselves and the show business world that they
reveal will make you laugh and cry at the same time. If you enjoyed
the first two "Crocodile Dundee" films, you may also enjoy
this one as well. But even for a casual Dundee fan like myself, I
wonder if the "Crocodile Dundee" franchise is due for
retirement. What do you say, mate? "No worries"?
The Extras
The "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" DVD contains a minimal amount of bonus
material:
Video & Audio
The image quality of this anamorphic
widescreen DVD is very good. The colors are accurate and
saturated, while shadow detail is very good. The opening scene's cinematography is
particularly stunning with the rich, natural colors of the Australian
Outback. The rest of the movie is more "normal" looking and
muted in comparison. The Dolby
Digital 5.1 soundtrack is well balanced and the surround channels are
used effectively to re-create the natural sounds of the Australian landscape. The dialog
consistently comes across crystal clear.
