When Will Star Wars
Episodes IV, V, and VI be released?
It's going to
be a rather long wait for Star Wars and DVD fans for Episodes IV, V,
and VI (the original Star Wars trilogy). The DVDs of Star
Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and
Star Wars: Return of The Jedi are not likely to
be released until
2006 at the earliest!
This is based on two
facts. First, Lucasfilm says that Episode II (Attack of the
Clones) and Episode III DVDs
will follow their theatrical releases in same timeframe as DVD
releases of typical movies, which is about six to nine months after
the theatrical releases. Second, George Lucas has said that he
wants to release the Star Wars DVDs in their story/episode order (as
in Episode I, then Episode II, then Episode III, etc.), starting with
Episode I on October 16, 2001, followed by Episode
II on November 12, 2002. Since Episode III is slated for
theatrical release in 2005, and its DVD release is likely to follow
in late 2005 or early 2006. We figure it won't be until at least 2006 when
Episodes IV through VI will be released, since George Lucas wants to
personally work on these DVDs. We hope that Lucasfilm changes its mind. Otherwise, it looks like
Star Wars: Episode I,
The Phantom Menace and Episode
II: Attack of the Clones will have to keep all of us Star Wars fans content for
a few years. As the Rebel Alliance puts it, "may the
force be with you". Don't be weak... don't be tempted to
buy the VHS versions of these movies. Do
