Summary: Lt. Frank Drebin returns again in this comedic adventure regarding a
terrorist plot against Oscar® awards ceremony.  Leslie Nielsen and the usual
gang will have you in tears from laughing so hard in this final episode of "The
Naked Gun" trilogy.  The amount of bonus materials is a little scant considering
this DVD's price, but the side-splitting comedy will more than make up for it.

The Story

Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) returns in this more-fun-than-ever sequel to the first two "The Naked Gun" movies.  This time Frank is retired from the Police Squad to try his hand at being a stay-at-home husband for Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley).  He doesn't last too long at his domestic duties and takes on another Police Squad assignment (of course!).  This time, Frank goes undercover as "Slasher" and befriends a convicted terrorist, Rocco Dillon, by going into prison and becoming Rocco's cell mate.  Frank uncovers Rocco's terrorist plot to bomb the Oscar® ceremony.  Needless to say, Frank manages to really stir up the ceremony in "The Naked Gun" fashion in trying to stop the bombing.  The Oscar® ceremony scene is totally star-studded, with guest appearances from no less than: Mariel Heminway, Raquel Welch, Mary Lou Retton, Vanna White, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Pia Zadora, James Earl Jones, and many others.

As with the first two "The Naked Guns" the gang of Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy, and now Anna Nicole Smith will have you laughing on the floor.  With great comedies, the plot doesn't really matter... the sillier the better... but following the example set by its predecessors, there is an interesting plot that weaves hilarious spoofs of movies and everyday real-world situations.

The opening scene at the staircase in a train station is a spoof of the "Goodfellas" movie.  What's new in this third "The Naked Gun" movie is that it makes fun of everyday real-world domestic situations, from grocery shopping to the situations of working mothers, workplace daycare, and stay-at-home house-husbands.  Director Peter Segal does a wonderful job of carrying on David Zucker's tradition of making hilarious "The Naked Gun" movies.  No matter what the issue is, "The Naked Gun" can turn it into the side-splitting comedic situation.

The Extras

With older movies the extra material tends to be limited because no one knew about DVD.  The DVD includes the theatrical trailer and a group commentary with David Zucker, Robert Weiss, Peter Segal, and Michael Ewing which we found to be quite interesting and informative.  It's much more fun to listen to a group commentary than the usual monolog of a typical director's commentary.  The commentary is also helpful if you didn't quite catch all the spoofs (as there are so many).

Video & Audio

The image quality of this enhanced widescreen DVD is quite good.  Colors are accurate and shadow details are nicely captured.  The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is well-balanced and effective.

Recommendation

This final feature in "The Naked Gun" trilogy will keep you laughing from the opening scene.  The comedy is as fresh and funny as ever.  With so many hilarious moments and spoofs, you may have to take a few viewings just to soak it all in.  If you enjoy this movie, you must check out the first two movies "The Naked Gun" and "The Naked Gun 2 1/2".
